Welcome to my online art classroom! My name is Michelle Harrell and I teach art at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School. I created this web-site for my students, my National Art Honor Society, bulldog parents for ways they can help the Fine Art Department, and other art teachers. Read my art teacher blog below (only entries from the last 6 months are kept) or explore the many individual web-pages within my site that are linked on both the left and right. For more information about me including contact information, click here.
Haiti Service Project- request for donations! Posted 2/5/10 The other art teacher, Jodi Aker, and I are doing a service learning project to benefit victims from the Haiti earthquake. We are creating baby kits through Church World Service that includes blankets and gowns we´ve made. We have a couple of `outside´ organizations that have agreed to help us but we need a few items to finish the kits (cloth diapers especially). Donation boxes are in the front office and the art room. For full details and a complete list of items needed, visit here.

Color Theory Smoothies! Posted 11/19/09 We made smoothies to demonstrate mixing the primaries, secondaries, and compliments. I want to thank all the students and families who brought ice cream, fruit, and juice for this fun activity. I especially want to thank Samatha Boshoff for using her background in making smoothies at her family´s business for both my 1st and 4th period classes. Everything was yummier thanks to her!!

NC State Fair Posted 10/24/09 If your family visits the NC State Fair, be sure to check out the 'farm frenzy' created by Wake County high school art departments. The SRMHS sheep by Mrs. Aker's 1st period Sculpture/ Ceramics class won an honorable mention. You can also visit the Kerr Scott Building to see the artwork on display. We also have 6 students representing our school in the school division. Both Mrs. Aker and I have artwork on display in the professional artist category.
Art III/IV Portraits Posted 8/28/09 Our Art III/IV students are having an intense week of drawing the figure using `turbulent´ vs. `calm´ lines and shapes in preparation for their silk screen prints. I´m already so proud of the improvements they are making and want to consider participating in the Painting Lemonade portraits for children in the impoverished ghetto of La Limonada inside Guatemala City. If there are at least a handful of students interested in participating, I´ll register us to participate. Click on a thumb-nail below to see an enlarged photo.
