My Paintings Home/ About me/ My Paintings
In my painting, I´m heavily influenced by the California plein-air artists, the Impressionists, and early 20th century regionalists like Edward Hopper and Grant Wood. I have recently studied under Caroline Jasper who is a master of Color Theory and an awesome teacher. I enjoy depicting the landscapes and buildings in my own surroundings and try to capture the fleeting effects of time. Though I´ve been painting with oils since I was 12, I still have so much to learn!

Sunset at Bald Head Island, Oil on Canvas
On my first trip to Bald Head Island a year ago, I took enough photos to supply years worth of photos. This particular painting was completed during a workshop with Caroline Jasper using her amazing Holbein colored gesso. |

The Moment, Oil on Canvas
On the same trip to Bald Head Island mentioned above, we went with great friends who kayak and we watched the sunset with this scene behind us. Months later, the same couple were engaged at this spot and the painting was their wedding present. The photo of the painting is poor quality but it´s one of my favorites because of its meaning. Congratulations Garrett and Kristin! |

September Rain, City Market. Oil on Canvas
A couple of years ago, at the Street Painting Festival, a small group of students and I went to Artspace while we were waiting for the rain to stop. While the photograph had lots of people and a jazz band playing across the street, I chose to focus on the quiet hazy rainy mood.. |

Jamesville Fire Dept, Oil on Canvas
The day after Christmas 2004, we actually had snow in NC. This building is the voluntary fire department that my grandfather volunteered for several years. This view is actually from my grandparents´ backyard and overlooks the clothesline and garden- both having lots of memories from my childhood. Click here to see the online demo of this painting. |

Snow in Jamesville, Oil on Canvas
The day after Christmas 2004, we actually had snow in NC. I just loved the blue shadows across the snow late afternoon at my grandparents house in Jamesville, NC. I really gave me an opportunity to play with light, shadow, and color. |

Docks at Calabash, Oil on Canvas

Downtown Charlotte Happy Hour, Oil on Canvas
I took photographs and sketched this scene while my husband was on a business trip in Charlotte. It is since been donated through Contemporary Art Museum to one of the board members. |

Mid-Morning Light at Peace. Oil on Canvas
This building holds so much meaning to me since it was my dorm for the first year of college and the chapel that Mark and I were married. . I tried to capture the light of a spring time morning. |

Linville Autumn Twilight. Oil on Canvas
Our family loves to camp at Linville Falls in the mountains. This was the log cabin where we stayed for Ethan´s first camping trip. While the view was amazing, I wanted to paint the front porch to remind me of the view and the weekend.

Queen´s Anne Lace on Parkway Path. Oil on Canvas
Again, this is another instance of a camping trip where I took loads of photos of beautiful vistas of the mountains. However, when I sit down to paint, it is the overlooked photos of off-beaten paths that inspire. |
